Day 147, Horshoe Canyon

Latitude: 45.282973 Longitude: -69.627528
Well this morning things did not cool off much from yesterday so back onto the trail for another hot humid day with 18.6 miles ahead of me. We have a short 3.6 miles to the Kennebec River where we have to take a canoe ferry across the river. The ferry service was started in 1994 to support hikers after a hiker died trying to cross. There is a dam 20 miles up stream that releases water periodically according to water height which can cause the river to swell in height and flow rate. We got across the river by 9:45 and continued 6 miles to Moxie Shelter for lunch. By the time I got here at 12:45 it was over 80 degrees and I was really tired-heat drains all my energy! Lazarus headed out for the last 9 miles to camp and I followed a half hour later. I had one mountain to get over in the next 1.5 miles then a few ups/downs to camp. With the heat I didn’t get to camp until 8:15 exhausted and a bit dehydrated. Lazarus helped me get setup and I went straight to bed drinking water until I had to pee-following drs orders! It started to rain around 8:45 cooling things off.
