Day 51, Lambert Shelter

I hit the trail at 5:55 with the destination of the Catawaba Grocery store then the remaining two VA triple crown sites. At the store I got a sausage egg and cheese biscuit, apple strudel, coffee, dove bar, and a sprite- this was after my morning pop-tarts, protein bar and coffee. I hiked to the first shelter 9 miles and took a 30 minute rest where a guy walked in-the ice cream man who was handing out bananas and Oreo cookies. I headed out at 13:00 and got to McAfee Knob around 14:30 with the sounds of a thunderstorm on the horizon. I was there alone but shortly before leaving two people showed up so I got my pic and took one for them and headed for the next shelter 1.5 miles at a double time pace to beat the storm. Once at the shelter I got water and sat around talking to other hikers the storm passed by and at 16:25 headed for Tinker Cliffs the last of the crown sites arriving around sunset. I got to the shelter thankful the day was done I was the most tired I’ve felt since starting.
